Earlier Report Observations

Hazelnut production in Asia saw a significant jump in 2019, reaching 902 thousand tons, up from 633 thousand tons the previous year. This surge was driven by global advancements in hazelnut cultivation technology and the promotion of green pest control methods, which enabled more规模化 and intensive industry development.

After a dip in 2020, production recovered through 2021 and 2022, supported by the expansion of hazelnut planting areas in China and increased efforts by farms and cooperatives. During this period, market competition intensified as brand concentration rose, with leading players like Baicaowei and Wolong becoming more active. The global market for both processed and unprocessed hazelnuts continued to expand, encompassing food, beverage, and oil applications.

In 2023, production declined to 812 thousand tons. This was influenced by macroeconomic factors such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict and Sino-US trade frictions, which disrupted supply chains and caused price volatility. Despite these challenges, key companies continued to invest in product diversification and deep processing, while government policies supported rural revitalization and smart agriculture.
