In value terms, the market displayed distinct dynamics, reaching its peak at over 1 billion US dollars in 2021. This was followed by a sharp decline of more than 20% in 2022, bringing the market value down to 807.3 million US dollars. A partial recovery occurred in 2023, with the market value rising to 918.7 million US dollars.

Overall, the period from 2018 to 2023 was marked by volatility in both volume and value. The market experienced its highest value in 2021, while the most significant annual contraction occurred in 2022.

In 2020, the value of hazelnut production in Western Europe reached 110.9 million US dollars, up 3.4% from 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production value increased by 41.9%, corresponding to an annualized growth rate of 12.4%. The peak value was observed in 2018 at 119.3 million US dollars. The most significant drop occurred in 2019 with a 10.1% decrease, whereas the largest increase was in 2018 at 52.6%.

Following a two-year decline, Western Europe's hazelnut export volume rebounded in 2020. Exports totaled 15.8 thousand tons, representing a 22.4% increase compared to the previous year. However, over the 2017-2020 period, exports decreased by 11.7%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -4.1%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 12.9 thousand tons. The largest decline occurred in 2018 with a 20.3% drop.

Between 2017 and 2020, no single market dominated hazelnut exports from Western Europe. Italy accounted for 13.7% of exports in kind, Spain for 4.6%, and Poland for 3.0%, collectively representing just 21.3% of total exports.
