Earlier Report Observations
The Namibian grape market volume expanded from 10,874 t in 2018 to 20,074 t in 2020. This initial growth was supported by broader agricultural export gains, including the approval of beef exports in 2018, which enhanced trade credibility and infrastructure for horticultural products like grapes.
Market volume continued to rise to 22,943 t in 2021 but then contracted to 19,495 t in 2022, reflecting variability in production and export patterns during those years.
By 2023, the market recovered to 22,740 t. The sector was driven by the need to reduce import dependency, as only 30% of domestic horticultural demand was met locally. Subsequently, in 2024, the Namibia Grape Company significantly expanded production and exports, secured access to the Chinese market, and began selling grapes in UK supermarkets, setting the stage for further market development.
