Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2023, the grape market in Latin America and the Caribbean experienced volume fluctuations, starting at 7.3 million tons and ending at 6.4 million tons. Intense competition among major producers like Peru, Chile, and Mexico drove widespread adoption of advanced cultivation technologies, including specialized machinery, improved irrigation, and pest control systems. These investments enhanced quality and efficiency, supporting market value even during volume declines.

Peru's rising market share, particularly from 2020 onward, reshaped regional dynamics. By 2022, Peru consolidated its position as a leading global table grape exporter, aided by expanded market access such as Japan's authorization of 26 Peruvian grape varieties. However, competitive pressures contributed to production declines in Chile, and regional output volatility led to a market volume drop to 6.5 million tons in 2022. Volume stabilized at 6.4 million tons in 2023.

Market value grew from $15.6 billion in 2018 to $17.0 billion in 2023 despite volume contractions. The 20.7% value surge in 2023 was primarily driven by rising production costs across Latin America, which elevated prices. Peru's export success, diversification into premium varieties, and strategic alliances for year-round high-quality supply further contributed to higher average values, underscoring a shift toward value-oriented production.
