Earlier Report Observations

Afghanistan's grape market volume stood at 707 thousand t in 2018, with traditional storage methods like 'Kongine' enabling quality supply in spring. It then jumped to 935 thousand t in 2019, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture's launch of modernization programs and research for grape production and variety improvement.

Market volume declined over the next two years, reaching 778 thousand t in 2021. This drop coincided with increased exports facilitated by the opening of border markets with Tajikistan and the development of a common market with Uzbekistan, which redirected more grapes abroad. Earlier, in 2020, authorities had initiated efforts to boost exports through exhibitions and improved packaging.

After a slight contraction to 745 thousand t in 2022, when the Ministry of Industry and Commerce reported strong export revenue expectations and worked on transit solutions, the market recovered to 878 thousand t in 2023 as production rose to 1 086 thousand t.
