Earlier Report Observations

The grape wine market in CIS grew to 1 342.6 million liters in 2019, up from 1 079.9 million liters in 2018, supported by the entry of new players and continued consumption growth for still and sparkling wines. However, in 2020, the market volume fell to 1 042.1 million liters as the COVID-19 pandemic reduced consumer purchasing power and altered preferences toward lighter beverages.

From 2021 to 2023, market volume stabilized around 1 020–1 027 million liters, while value fluctuated due to rising excise taxes and a shift toward premium segments. EU sanctions on premium alcohol imports in 2022 led to the exit of major foreign companies and boosted domestic production, which helped maintain overall volume despite import declines. Consumer interest in organic, natural, and biodynamic wines further supported value trends during this period.
