Earlier Report Observations

The Slovenian grape wine market grew from 22.4 million liters in 2018 to 23.2 million liters in 2019, supported by a record grape harvest in 2018 that increased domestic production. Vineyards adapted to climate change, which caused earlier ripening and required new cultivation techniques, helping maintain output despite a slightly smaller harvest in 2019.

Market volume contracted sharply to 14.7 million liters in 2020 and further to 13.0 million liters in 2021. This decline coincided with a reduction in the number of grape producers and vineyard area, which limited production capacity. Financial strain from low grape prices and stricter environmental regulations, alongside climate adjustments that led to later harvests and changed production methods, curbed overall volume.

A recovery began in 2022, with the market reaching 15.6 million liters, driven by higher prices for quality wine that incentivized production. The introduction of disease-resistant vine varieties and a shift toward organic farming supported this rebound. By 2023, the market expanded to 19.0 million liters, reflecting sustained demand despite a slight dip in production.
