From 2018 to 2019, the goat meat market in Vietnam expanded, supported by a persistent shortfall in domestic fresh meat supply that led to monthly imports of 1,000–2,000 tons of frozen goat from Australia and New Zealand. This gap encouraged local processors like Vinh Hanh Food to diversify into ready-to-eat products such as smoked goat meat and fresh goat sausages, while strict quality controls and the expansion of distribution networks in major cities improved product availability.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 increased demand for frozen foods, including goat meat, boosting imports and accelerating investments in cold-chain logistics to maintain quality. Consumers simultaneously placed greater value on meat with assured safety, traceability, and no antibiotic or growth promoter use, reinforcing market trends toward trusted and convenient products.

In the following years through 2023, the market volume continued its steady upward trajectory, reaching 23 629 t in 2023. This growth was primarily fueled by rising domestic production, which increased to 23 574 t, while imports remained a minor supplement to the overall supply.
