Earlier Report Observations

The market for edible pig offal in Vietnam began the period at 395 thousand tonnes in 2018. In 2019, volume dropped sharply to 344.5 thousand tonnes, primarily driven by supply shortages following the African swine fever outbreak, which led to heightened disease control measures and reduced pig herds.

After a slight further decline to 337.5 thousand tonnes in 2020, the market stabilized as the government implemented tariff reductions on imported frozen pork to ease supply pressures during the COVID-19 pandemic. From 2021, production rebounded, reaching 358.4 thousand tonnes, supported by effective disease control that allowed herd replenishment and coordinated state measures to facilitate imports.

Growth continued through 2022 and 2023, with market volume rising to 381.7 thousand tonnes and then 408.8 thousand tonnes. This expansion was fueled by increasing domestic pork supply as herds recovered, coupled with robust consumer demand that placed Vietnam among the world's top pork-consuming nations.
