Jamaica's goat meat market volume grew from 651 tons in 2018 to 691 tons in 2019, supported by a suspension of import tax on live small ruminants designed to enhance genetic stock and food security. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted supply chains, reducing production and imports and pulling the market size down to 573 tons. This downward trend continued into 2021, with the market contracting further to 482 tons.

Market volume recovered to 562 tons in 2022 as imports rose. In July 2023, the government's temporary removal of the General Consumption Tax on live goat imports spurred a sharp increase in foreign supply, with imports reaching 141 tons and driving the total market to 623 tons. By 2024, imports surged to 405 tons, aided by the extended tax suspension until February 2025, although hurricanes and drought introduced supply-chain constraints.

In 2020, Jamaica produced 528 tonnes of goat meat, representing a 17.4% decrease compared to the previous year.
