Goat meat production in Eswatini increased from 3 020 t in 2018 to 3 212 t in 2020. This growth was supported by the Livestock Development Policy, which established extension services and animal‑health structures to raise goat productivity for small‑holder suppliers. The enforcement of the Livestock Identification Act improved traceability, facilitating market access for producers. Additionally, the government‑run feed‑mill expansion in 2020 boosted the availability of concentrate feed, contributing to herd growth.

After 2020, production stabilized around 3 186‑3 188 t through 2023. COVID‑19 restrictions shifted demand away from restaurants toward home consumption, affecting processing volumes. The country's participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) opened new regional markets, prompting several cooperatives to seek export certification. In 2022, cold‑chain infrastructure introduced under the National Agricultural Investment Plan enhanced the distribution of chilled goat meat to urban retailers. The following year, an outbreak of Foot‑and‑Mouth Disease in neighboring South Africa led the Swaziland Meat Corporation to halt fresh goat meat exports to the EU, reducing external opportunities. This was partly offset by the launch of Eswatini Meat Industries mini‑markets, which expanded retail availability of fresh goat meat domestically.
