Cuban goat meat production rose sharply from 5 000 tons in 2018 to a peak of 8 907 tons in 2020, before entering a downward trend that brought output to 6 205 tons by 2023.
The decline was most pronounced in 2022, when production fell 24% to 6 223 tons. During this period, authorities eased import rules for vacuum-packed meat aimed at travelers, and the state-owned joint venture Cárnicas Bravo entered the processed meat market. In 2023, output stabilized as the government announced measures to liberalize meat sales and updated sanitary regulations for imports.
Further regulatory updates in 2024 included expanded lists of eligible import countries and new price controls on livestock procurement.
