Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2019, the market volume for fresh or chilled edible brassicas in CIS increased from 4 739 тыс. т to 4 914 тыс. т. This growth coincided with the expansion of production capacities and active involvement of major companies, including the launch of new production facilities. Rising consumer interest in healthy eating and organic products also stimulated demand, while new certification and phytosanitary requirements were introduced to enhance product safety.

The market contracted to 4 735 тыс. т in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily reduced demand from the HoReCa and social catering segments. Sanitary rules for retail trade in vegetables and fruits were enforced, strengthening quality control. In 2021, the market volume fell further to 4 294 тыс. т. During this period, the organic vegetable segment developed with state support, and new packaging and labeling technologies were adopted to improve product preservation and consumer information.

A recovery began in 2022, with the market reaching 4 645 тыс. т. Logistical changes and sanctions stimulated domestic production, supported by investments in greenhouse farming. In 2023, the market grew to 4 932 тыс. т, driven by an 8% increase in the overall vegetable harvest and continued expansion of greenhouse production. New traceability and labeling requirements were implemented to improve market transparency, reflecting ongoing shifts in consumer preferences toward healthy and organic options.
