The market contracted to 5 740 t in 2022 following the completion of the DAR26015 project, which had provided sustained support to production. In 2023, volume recovered to 6 091 t, despite reports of vegetable price surges from adverse weather conditions and transport access issues in regions like Toliara. The sector continued to see growing participation from multiple stakeholders and a focus on processing to reduce post-harvest losses.

In 2020, the country produced 5 933 tonnes of frozen vegetables, representing a robust 12.2% increase compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 27.3%, with an average annual growth rate of 8.4%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 4 285 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 8.0%. The most significant increase occurred in 2019, with production rising by 23.4%.
