Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the Norwegian frozen vegetables market expanded in volume, driven by the practical advantage of frozen products during winter months and advances in quick-freezing technology that preserved nutrients. Local sourcing initiatives, such as Findus's partnerships with Norwegian farmers, reinforced supply stability and consumer trust, supporting market growth.

Demand for frozen vegetable mixes rose notably in 2020, further boosting market size. However, from 2021 onward, volume sales contracted as consumer perceptions increasingly favored fresh vegetables over frozen, despite research showing comparable nutritional content. This shift led to a marked decline in frozen vegetable sales.

During this period, retailer Coop announced a major investment to build its own frozen vegetable production facility, aiming to launch unique Norwegian varieties. While this indicated strategic moves within the supply side, it did not offset the overall decline in market volume through 2022.
