Earlier Report Observations

The frozen sweetcorn market in Western Asia showed considerable variation in volume between 2018 and 2023. Initial growth lifted the market to 33 879 t in 2019, but this was followed by a two-year decline, with consumption falling to 28 774 t by 2021.

A sharp reversal occurred in 2022, as market volume jumped by over 7 900 t to reach 36 692 t. This increase was primarily supported by a major rise in imports, which more than offset a continued decline in domestic production. The expansion proved temporary, however, with the market contracting by 29% in 2023 to 26 006 t.

Over the full period, the market's reliance on imported sweetcorn intensified, as local production fell by nearly a third from its 2019 level. The final market volume in 2023 was 19% below the level recorded at the start of the period in 2018.
