Earlier Report Observations

The frozen sweetcorn market volume in MENA showed significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. After a peak of 43 000 tons in 2019, consumption fell to 36 600 tons in 2020, partially recovered to 38 700 tons in 2021, then declined to 36 200 tons in 2022 and sharply to 28 400 tons in 2023. Over this period, domestic production contracted from over 8 000 tons to around 5 400 tons, while import levels varied and exports saw a notable rise in 2022 and 2023.

In 2024, import volumes surged to 45 900 tons, indicating a rebound in market activity. This increase was supported by regional dynamics within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), where import prices for frozen vegetables dropped by 7.3% to $1 737 per ton, making imports more attractive. Furthermore, frozen sweetcorn was among the fastest-growing exported product types in the GCC, with strong demand growth in key markets like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar driving overall import value.
