Moldova's fresh grape production declined significantly from 730 thousand tons in 2018 to 462 thousand tons in 2020, pulling the market volume down from 682 thousand tons to 421 thousand tons over the same period. Exports also dropped to 41.3 thousand tons in 2020, while imports remained minimal throughout.

From 2021 onward, production recovered steadily, reaching 571 thousand tons by 2023. This rebound supported a market volume increase to 502 thousand tons, with exports peaking at 69.9 thousand tons in 2023, reflecting stronger external demand for Moldovan grapes.

In 2024, extreme temperatures and grape cracking reduced grape yields, while an increase in the European Union's tariff-rate quotas for table grapes stimulated export opportunities. Concurrently, a potential Ukrainian embargo on Moldovan grapes introduced uncertainty for regional trade, and high maintenance costs alongside reduced domestic consumption affected market dynamics.

Moldova's fresh grape production declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 462.1 thousand tons of fresh grapes, marking a sharp 29.9% decrease compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production fell by 31.6%, which translates to an annualized decline rate of 11.9%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 730.2 thousand tons, with the largest year-on-year increase of 8.2% also occurring that year.
