In 2020, the peach and nectarine market in Moldova contracted by 14% to 17.1 thousand tonnes, driven by late spring frosts that damaged the harvest and pandemic-related supply chain disruptions.

After a partial recovery to 18.3 thousand tonnes in 2022, the market volume fell sharply by 24% in 2023 to 13.9 thousand tonnes, mirroring a drop in domestic production of over one-third.

By 2024, sector development efforts were evident through specialized cultivation seminars, though production remained sensitive to climatic risks such as drought and frost.

Moldova's production of peaches and nectarines has declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 18 702 tonnes, which represents a 16.2% decrease compared to 2019. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production fell by 11.2%, averaging an annual decline of 3.9%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 24 660 tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase of 17.1%.

The value of Moldova's peaches and nectarines production has also dropped for the second consecutive year. In 2020, output was valued at 7 849 thousand US dollars, down 12.2% from 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production value decreased by 12%, with an average annual decline of 4.2%. The peak value occurred in 2018 at 11 681 thousand US dollars, which experienced the largest annual increase of 31.0%. The most significant decline was in 2019, falling by 23.5%.

Moldova's exports of peaches and nectarines in volume terms have fallen for the second straight year. In 2020, export volume reached 3 199 tonnes, showing a substantial decrease of 17.6% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports dropped by 22.7%, averaging an annual decline of 8.2%. The highest export volume was in 2018 at 6 162 tonnes, which saw the largest annual increase of 48.9%. The most significant decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 37.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus were the primary destinations for Moldova's peaches and nectarines exports in volume terms. Russia accounted for 36.0% of exports, Ukraine for 34.9%, and Belarus for 28.0%. Together, these three countries represented 98.9% of total export flows.
