The Iranian fresh grape market volume grew in 2018 and 2019, reaching 1.9 million tons in 2019. This increase was driven by rising domestic consumer demand, which stimulated production. At the same time, the government provided low-interest loans and insurance services to exporters to support sales in key markets such as Russia, although export volumes remained stable.

The market sharply contracted from 2020 to 2022, falling to 1.4 million tons in 2022. In 2020, increased exports of 64 thousand tons reduced domestic availability. Then, severe frost in some regions in 2021 damaged the harvest, leading to a significant drop in production. Despite investments in modern irrigation systems and quality improvements for export, production volumes continued to decline.

The market recovered to 1.5 million tons in 2023 as production increased. This growth occurred despite a ban on the production and sale of grape juice at Tehran's central fruit and vegetable market, which could have limited demand from processors. Increased exports from regions like Khallilabad and a focus on quality export varieties also contributed to market activity.

Iran was among the world's leading producers of fresh grapes from 2017 to 2020, ranking 11th globally by production volume.

After two years of growth, Iran's fresh grape production declined. In 2020, the country produced 1,830 thousand tons of fresh grapes, marking a gradual decrease of 5.9% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production increased by 3.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.2%. The highest production level was recorded in 2019 at 1,946 thousand tons, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2018 at 8.5%.

The export market for fresh grapes from Iran showed an unstable trend during this period. Exports reached their lowest point in 2017 and peaked in 2020, with a 5.8-fold difference between these years. In 2020, Iran exported 64,425 tons of fresh grapes, representing a sharp increase of 127.9% compared to the previous year. The largest decline was recorded in 2019 at 1.2%, while the most significant increase occurred in 2018 at 158.1%.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia, Pakistan, and Iraq were the main destinations for Iran's fresh grape exports, together accounting for 83.6% of total exports in volume. Russia received 34.5% of exports, Pakistan 26.7%, and Iraq 22.4%.

Iran's fresh grape exports increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 28,698 thousand US dollars, which is 37.5% higher than the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports grew by 309%, equivalent to an annualized rate of 59.9%.

During 2017-2020, Russia, Pakistan, and Iraq remained the top buyers of fresh grapes from Iran in value terms, jointly accounting for 82.7% of total export value. Russia represented 35.2% of exports, Pakistan 25.2%, and Iraq 22.3%.
