Earlier Report Observations
From 2018 to 2019, the domestic market volume for sago flour in Indonesia remained stable at around 366–367 thousand tons. This period saw PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya target a monthly production capacity of 1,250 tons by 2018, while the government's PIPL program provided processing machinery to smallholder farmers in Merauke to increase local output. However, in 2020 the market contracted to 319.5 thousand tons, the same year the national ‘Sagunesia’ policy was unveiled to support sago development over 2022‑2024.
After a modest recovery to 322.8 thousand tons in 2021, the market surged to 437.8 thousand tons in 2022. The rise was driven by the rollout of the ‘Sagunesia’ program, which allocated 18 processing‑equipment units across 12 districts, directly boosting production capacity. At the same time, PT Bangka Asindo Agri promoted sago flour as a high‑value food ingredient at the ICOSEAT international conference. Market volume then fell to 339.8 thousand tons in 2023.
