Earlier Report Observations

The European fig market volume increased from 158.6 thousand tons in 2018 to 205.2 thousand tons in 2020, reflecting a period of sustained growth in consumption. This expansion was followed by a contraction to 192.8 thousand tons in 2021 and a further decline to 165.5 thousand tons in 2022. Despite the overall market reduction, the dried fig segment demonstrated resilience, buoyed by ongoing urbanization, rising health awareness among consumers, and the proliferation of supermarket and hypermarket retail channels. Technological improvements in dried fig processing and growing incorporation of fig ingredients into snack bars, baked goods, and plant-based food products also supported demand within this segment.

By 2023, the total fig market volume showed a slight decrease to 161.7 thousand tons, signaling a phase of market stabilization after the preceding adjustments.
