Earlier Report Observations

The feldspar market volume in Turkey stood at 49 thousand tons in 2018, while the country was already a major global producer and exporter to the European Union. A significant increase to 3 132 thousand tons occurred in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted mining and processing, but also accelerated demand for solar panels and eco-friendly construction materials, supporting market growth to 4 470 thousand tons.

Market expansion continued through 2021 and 2022, reaching 8 378 thousand tons by the latter year. Turkey solidified its position as the EU's dominant feldspar supplier, capturing over 80% of the bloc's procurement, which bolstered production volumes. During this period, environmental regulations and sustainability requirements in mining became more pronounced, and prices for Turkish feldspar began to rise.

In 2023 and 2024, feldspar prices increased sharply, standing 76% above the 2000–2021 average by March 2024. This price surge encouraged investments in high-purity feldspar extraction projects, particularly for glass and ceramic fluxes. Environmental rules further tightened, and the mining sector embraced digitalization and automation to improve efficiency and resource management.
