This growth was propelled by strong demand from the region's glassmaking and ceramics sectors, which were boosted by accelerated construction activity across residential and commercial projects.

Market volume contracted sharply in 2020 to 1,300 K t as the COVID-19 pandemic caused temporary industrial slowdowns, particularly in construction and automotive—key consumers of feldspar. Recovery began in the second half of 2020, and by 2021, resuming industrial operations and increasing demand for glass packaging and ceramic tiles pushed volume to 1,434 K t. The surge continued into 2022, driven by technological advancements, urbanization, and rising consumption of glass and ceramic coatings, leading to the peak market volume.

In 2020, ASEAN's feldspar output was valued at 64 994 K $ US, representing a significant decline of 13.3% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production decreased by 6%, with a CAGR of -2.0%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 63 291 K $ US, while the peak occurred in 2019 at 75 002 K $ US, which also experienced the largest increase of 18.5%.

ASEAN's feldspar export volume declined in 2020 after two years of growth. The region exported 763.3 K t of feldspar, which was 16.4% lower than the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, exports increased by 2.8%, with a CAGR of 0.9%. The highest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 912.8 K t, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 at 11.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, and India were consistently the main destinations for ASEAN's feldspar exports in kind. Bangladesh accounted for 43.4% of exports, the United Arab Emirates for 19.8%, and India for 1.4%. Together, these three countries represented 64.7% of total export flows.

Exports in value, K $ US

After two years of gains, ASEAN's feldspar export value declined in 2020. The region exported 29 475 K $ US of feldspar, marking an 8.7% drop compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports increased by 13.9%, with a CAGR of 4.4%. The peak value was recorded in 2019 at 32 298 K $ US, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 at 19.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, and India remained the leading destinations for ASEAN's feldspar exports in value terms. ASEAN's feldspar import volume declined in 2020 after two years of improvement. Imports amounted to 379.9 K t, down by 33.6% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports decreased by 6.5%, with a CAGR of -2.2%. The highest import volume was recorded in 2019 at 571.9 K t, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 at 27.6%.

The largest decline occurred in 2019 at 22.3%.
