Earlier Report Observations

The market for fresh or chilled edible brassicas in Suriname contracted substantially from 1 398 t in 2018 to 873 t in 2023. The most pronounced drop occurred in 2021, when market volume fell to 657 t, a decrease of 38% compared to the previous year.

This decline was primarily due to a sharp reduction in domestic production, which more than halved from 1 289 t in 2018 to 591 t in 2023. Although imports grew from 109 t to 282 t over the same period, they were insufficient to offset the fall in local output, leading to a smaller overall market.

Following the 2021 low, the market showed a partial recovery, rising to 825 t in 2022 and 873 t in 2023.
