The Tunisian market for fresh edible brassicas opened the period with a volume of 40 757 t in 2018, but fell to 39 466 t in 2019 following significant price increases for fruits and vegetables at the Bir El Kassaa wholesale market, where some vegetable prices surged by up to 180%, dampening consumer demand.

Market volume recovered to 42 353 t in 2020, even as vegetable prices rose further at Bir El Kassaa by year-end. Over the next three years, volume fluctuated, declining to 41 058 t in 2021 and 40 385 t in 2022 before a slight rebound to 40 813 t in 2023.

In 2024, wholesale prices for vegetables continued to climb sharply, with onions up by 189% at Bir El Kassaa, and the Ministry of Commerce set maximum prices for imported and local beef as part of broader anti-inflation measures, potentially affecting consumer spending on vegetables including brassicas.

In 2020, Tunisia produced 42 640 tonnes of edible brassicas, representing a 5.5% increase compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 7.9%, with an average annual growth rate of 2.6%. The most significant decline occurred in 2019, when production fell by 1.1%.

The export market for edible brassicas showed considerable volatility during this period. Exports reached their lowest point in 2018 at 135.9 tonnes, then surged to a peak of 969.6 tonnes in 2019, marking a 7.1-fold increase between these two years. In 2020, Tunisia's exports dropped sharply to 289.5 tonnes, a decline of 70.1% compared to 2019. The most substantial growth was recorded in 2019, with exports increasing by 613.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Poland and Libya were the primary destinations for Tunisia's edible brassicas exports, together accounting for 93.2% of total export volumes. The remaining share was distributed among other markets.

The export market in value terms also experienced significant fluctuations. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 50.4 thousand US dollars, followed by a peak in 2019 at 319.7 thousand US dollars, representing a 6.3-fold difference. In 2020, Tunisia's exports of edible brassicas fell to 126.8 thousand US dollars, a reduction of 60.3% compared to the previous year. The most notable increase occurred in 2019, with a growth of 534.4%.

During 2017–2020, Libya and Poland remained the key markets for Tunisia's edible brassicas exports in value terms, jointly making up 89.9% of total export flows. Other trading partners accounted for the remainder.

Tunisia's imports of edible brassicas declined for the second consecutive year in 2020, reaching 2.4 tonnes, which is 52.2% lower than in 2019. Over the 2017–2020 period, imports decreased by 73.9%, with an average annual decline of 36.1%. The highest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 11.3 tonnes. The most significant drop occurred in 2019, with a decrease of 55.6%, while the largest increase was in 2018, at 23.2%.

Throughout 2017–2020, Egypt was the nearly exclusive supplier of edible brassicas to Tunisia, accounting for 94.1% of total imports in volume terms.

Tunisia's imports of edible brassicas in value terms also fell for the second year in a row in 2020, totaling approximately 3.0 thousand US dollars, a sharp drop of 43.0% compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, imports decreased by 76.5%, with an average annual decline of 38.3%. The peak value was in 2018 at 12.9 thousand US dollars. The most substantial decline was in 2019, at 58.9%, while the largest increase was in 2018, at 0.5%.

Over the 2017–2020 period, Tunisia's imports of edible brassicas in value terms were almost entirely dependent on Egypt, which accounted for 92.8% of total import flows.
