From 2018, Singapore's pork market operated without domestic production, relying entirely on imported chilled, frozen, or fresh pork supported by developing local transport and marketing infrastructure. The market volume declined to 6.7 million t in 2019. In 2020, the African Swine Fever outbreak and export bans from key supplying nations like Malaysia and Indonesia disrupted supply chains, contributing to a slight volume contraction to 6.6 million t while driving a sharp price increase that surged the market value to USD 23.4 billion.

Consumer demand shifted towards safe, traceable, and fresh chilled meat from 2021, supporting a volume recovery to 6.7 million t as the market value normalized to USD 21.3 billion. The Meat Traders Association's strengthened international partnerships in 2022 helped stabilize supplies, facilitating further volume growth to 7.1 million t despite a value dip to USD 19.5 billion. By 2023, sustained consumer preferences and broader market factors pushed the volume to 7.1 million t and the value to a new high of USD 24.5 billion.
