Earlier Report Observations

The duck meat and offal market in Belarus reached 2 635 tonnes in 2018, supported by strong production from major meat processing plants like Brest and Grodno meat processing plants and a general growth trend in poultry meat output. However, the market volume contracted to 1 896 tonnes in 2019 and further to 1 411 tonnes by 2021. This decline was primarily driven by a sharp increase in exports, which more than doubled from 904 tonnes in 2018 to 2 120 tonnes in 2021. The export surge was facilitated by the exit of a major Russian producer, Dontstar, due to bird flu outbreaks, which created a supply gap in Russia that Belarusian exporters were able to fill.

From 2022, the domestic market began to recover, growing to 1 599 tonnes and further to 1 783 tonnes in 2023. This rebound was supported by continued state backing for the meat industry, a focus on developing the internal market, and the expansion of product assortments into value-added segments like semi-finished products and delicacies. Ongoing automation and digitalization at meat processing plants also contributed to operational efficiency, helping to stabilize production volumes around 3 580–3 585 tonnes during this period.

In 2024, the industry saw the emergence of new players and an adjustment to state price regulations aimed at supporting domestic producers. The introduction of mandatory meat product labeling in Russia, using Data Matrix codes and the 'Chestny ZNAK' system, established new requirements for exporters. Belarusian suppliers maintained competitive prices for shipments to Russia, while domestic development continued to focus on packaging innovations and further product diversification.
