In 2020, Africa produced 693.7 K t of dried shelled chickpeas, remaining almost flat compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, production increased by 3.2%, which equates to an annualized growth rate of 1.0%. The largest increase was recorded in 2018, when production reached 713.7 K t, a 6.1% rise. However, the largest decline occurred in 2019, with a 2.3% drop.

From 2017 to 2020, India, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan accounted for the largest share of exports in kind. India led with 56.0% of exports, followed by the United Arab Emirates at 9.8% and Pakistan at 8.8%. Together, these three countries comprised 74.6% of total export flows.

In 2020, Africa exported 115.5 M $ US of dried shelled chickpeas, constituting a gradual rise of 4.4% from a year earlier. However, between 2017 and 2020, exports decreased by 16%, equating to an annualized decline of 5.7%. The minimum value was recorded in 2018 at 95.8 M $ US, which saw the largest decline of 30.3%. The largest increase was recorded in 2019, with a 15.4% rise.
