Between 2018 and 2020, the market for dried shelled broad and horse beans in Eastern Africa experienced a notable fluctuation. Production fell from 1 052 thousand tons in 2018 to 1 007 thousand tons in 2019, with market volume dropping to 965 thousand tons. These included a large livestock commercialization project in Trans-Nzoia, Kenya, and a market access strategy in Makueni County developed with the UN World Food Program to connect smallholder farmers to markets.
