Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2021, the Russian market for dextrins and modified starches grew from 147 thousand tons to 175.5 thousand tons. This expansion was supported by the development of domestic producers, such as ND-Technik and Amil, which increased their production capacities. At the same time, sanctions pressure prompted a reorientation of imports from European suppliers to Asian countries, maintaining product availability on the market.

The introduction of broad economic sanctions against Russia in 2022 sharply reduced imports, which fell by 28.8%, stimulating import substitution. Domestic production responded with significant growth, reaching 109.4 thousand tons. However, the total market volume increased only slightly to 177.7 thousand tons, as the drop in imports offset the production increase. In 2023, the market contracted to 160.3 thousand tons, as imports continued to decline to 46.1 thousand tons, despite further production growth to 120.7 thousand tons.

By 2024, the market recovered to 172.1 thousand tons. Import substitution continued, with imports remaining at 52.1 thousand tons while production rose to 127.9 thousand tons. The Soyuzkrakhmali association consolidated the industry's largest enterprises, contributing to the resilience of domestic supply.
