From 2018 to 2021, the toluene market volume in Russia declined from 323.5 thousand tonnes to 267.6 thousand tonnes. Geopolitical sanctions restricted equipment and raw material supplies, curbing production. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 further reduced demand as chemical production was temporarily disrupted.

The market rebounded strongly from 2022, reaching 385.7 thousand tonnes in 2024. This growth was propelled by heightened demand from the military-industrial complex and the construction sector, which accounts for about 25% of consumption. In 2023, the launch of the modernized TAYF-NK unit with a capacity of 200 thousand tonnes per year significantly expanded domestic production capabilities.
