Earlier Report Observations

The market for corn oil and fractions in Poland showed strong growth in volume and value between 2019 and 2021, with physical market size increasing from 5 262 t to 11 596 t and value rising from 3.7 mln $ US to 12.3 mln $ US. This expansion occurred alongside the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which disrupted supply chains and shifted consumption patterns, and was further supported by a growing consumer preference for healthy and non-GMO oils, a trend noted in market observations from 2022 onward.

Trade flows experienced significant shifts, with imports surging to 6 383 t in 2021 before declining. The import environment was influenced by an average 11.2% customs tariff on refined, not chemically modified maize oil, which had been in effect since 2018. Concurrently, exports grew steadily, reaching 9 040 t in 2024, indicating strengthening international demand for Polish production.

A key regulatory change is the new, stricter EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) rules, applicable in Poland from 10 December 2024. These regulations impose more rigorous requirements for label readability, formatting, and chemical information, necessitating adjustments to product packaging for corn oil and other vegetable oils on the market.
