The copra market in Eastern Africa contracted dramatically between 2018 and 2023, losing roughly 45% of its volume over the six-year span. This represented a decrease of more than 45 thousand tons, with the market sinking to a low of 54.8 thousand tons in 2022.

After a steep fall in 2019, the market's descent slowed until 2021. A renewed decline in 2022 was followed by a slight recovery in 2023, when volume increased by about 1.7 thousand tons. Despite this uptick, the market remained well below its initial size.
