Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2019, the market volume for concentrated milk and cream in Kyrgyzstan expanded significantly, rising from 32 083 tons to 39 019 tons. This growth was driven by an increase in raw milk production, supported by a rising cattle population and investments from the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund into dairy processing facilities.

The market contracted sharply in 2020 to 22 671 tons due to supply chain and logistics disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, volume stabilized around 22 312 tons, while the industry saw the launch of a major milk processing project aimed at enhancing local production capabilities over the longer term.

A recovery began in 2022, with market volume reaching 27 244 tons and edging up to 27 473 tons in 2023. During this period, the market faced intense competition from imported products, and authorities discussed possible price controls for raw milk purchases. Additionally, the upcoming Eurasian Economic Union technical regulation, set for January 2025, began influencing strategic planning as it promised to tighten quality requirements for milk from small household farms.
