After a further decline to 656 thousand tons in 2021, the market rebounded strongly to 857 thousand tons in 2022. This growth was primarily driven by increased demand for protein meals like copra meal, resulting from rising animal production in the region, which elevated consumption volumes.

Market volume stabilized at 838 thousand tons in 2023, with Vietnam emerging as a notable global exporter. In 2024, low domestic copra supply in the Philippines led to higher imports from Indonesia and Malaysia, while India's export bans on certain oilmeals influenced regional trade flows.

The peak production was recorded in 2018 at 1 255 K t, with the largest year-on-year increase of 28.1% also occurring that year.

Following two years of growth, South-eastern Asia's coconut oilcake production has now declined. In 2020, the output was valued at 247.1 M $ US, down by 5.2% compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production increased by 14.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.7%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 260.8 M $ US, while the largest increase of 12.7% was seen in 2018.

From 2017 to 2020, exports decreased by 19%, with an average annual decline of 6.8%. The peak export volume was recorded in 2018 at 646.1 K t, which also saw the largest increase of 39.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, India, South Korea, and China were the key partners for coconut oilcake exports from South-eastern Asia in terms of volume. India accounted for 45.2% of exports, South Korea for 30.9%, and China for 5.7%. Together, these three countries represented 81.8% of total export flows.

South-eastern Asia's coconut oilcake exports have declined in value for the second year running. In 2020, the region exported 83.7 M $ US worth of coconut oilcake, which is 19.1% lower than in 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, exports decreased by 17.7%, with an average annual decline of 6.3%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 124.9 M $ US, and the largest increase of 22.9% also occurred that year.

During 2017-2020, Papua New Guinea, India, and Vanuatu were notable suppliers of coconut oilcake to South-eastern Asia in terms of volume. However, their combined share reached only 32.2% of total imports, with the remaining 67.8% distributed among numerous other partners.
