Earlier Report Observations

The market for cocoa shells, husks, skins and waste in Oceania showed significant volatility between 2018 and 2023. After starting at 705.4 tons in 2018, market volume dipped to 689.4 tons in 2019 before rising to 802.4 tons in 2020. A contraction to 682.5 tons followed in 2021, preceding an exceptional peak of 1,008.4 tons in 2022. The period closed with the market returning to 802.5 tons in 2023.

Domestic production remained the primary supply source, fluctuating between 621.6 and 791.0 tons. The extraordinary market peak in 2022 was directly linked to a temporary surge in imports, which reached 425.8 tons that year—several times higher than levels seen in other years. This import spike provided a large, one-time increase to total available volume before subsiding.
