The citrus fruit market in Seychelles, heavily dependent on imports due to constrained arable land, saw its volume grow from 1.8 thousand tons in 2018 to 1.8 thousand tons in 2019. This increase coincided with sustained economic growth driven by tourism and fisheries, which boosted demand for fresh produce including citrus fruits.

Market volume dropped to 1.5 thousand tons in 2020 but recovered strongly to 1.9 thousand tons by 2022 and reached 2.0 thousand tons in 2023. The rebound was supported by agricultural development projects on outer islands and improved distribution infrastructure, such as the EU-funded Glacis fish market, which facilitated the flow of agricultural goods.

Policy measures like the Water Resources Management Bill 2023, aimed at enhancing water availability for agriculture, along with extensions to price controls to keep essential foods affordable, further stabilized the market and encouraged consumption growth during the latter years.
