Earlier Report Observations

From 2018, Senegal's citrus fruit production and market volume began a steady rise, supported by the government's creation of a Horticulture Directorate to develop the fruit sector and Dakar's port infrastructure that facilitated access to international markets.

The COVID-19 pandemic introduced logistical challenges for exports in 2020, but the sector maintained quality efforts. Subsequent state initiatives, such as building cold storage and launching the National Interest Market (MIN) in Diamniadio in 2021, reduced post-harvest losses and improved commercialization, supporting market growth.

The full operation of MIN in 2022 further enhanced the distribution of citrus, while the Ukraine war context reinforced focus on local marketing. By 2023, production reached 121 thousand tons and market volume 134.5 thousand tons, continuing the upward trend.
