Senegal's orange production demonstrated consistent growth from 45 000 tons in 2018 to 60 500 tons in 2023. This expansion was supported by the government's horticulture development policy, specifically targeting citrus fruits like oranges, which was established in 2018 with the creation of a dedicated Horticulture Directorate within the Ministry of Agriculture.

Total market volume, reflecting domestic consumption, rose from 48 527 tons in 2018 to 65 366 tons in 2023. Imports varied between 2 758 and 5 210 tons during this period, supplementing local supply, while exports remained minimal. The market experienced a brief stabilization in 2022 as import volumes dipped, but resumed growth the following year.

By 2023, continued state backing for the horticulture sector, including policies supporting citrus production and port infrastructure for exports, helped sustain the upward trajectory. The Senegalese orange market thus strengthened its domestic production base over the six-year period.

Senegal's orange production has increased for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 56,800 tons of oranges, marking a moderate 8.0% rise from the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 13.6%, which translates to an average annual increase of 4.3%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 45,000 tons, when output fell by 10.0%. The most significant growth occurred in 2019, with a 16.8% increase.
