Citrus fruit production in Honduras expanded from 599.2 thousand tons in 2018 to 628.5 thousand tons in 2019, while the domestic market volume grew from 571.0 to 603.5 thousand tons. This increase occurred alongside a period where agricultural production became the economy's sole growing sector, fueled by rising exports of tropical fruits to the United States and regional markets.

Following the peak, production and market volume entered a phase of stabilization with minor fluctuations. A significant contraction occurred in 2022, when the market volume dropped sharply to 544.0 thousand tons as production declined to 610.4 thousand tons. This period lacked specific disruptive events reported for the citrus segment.

The market recovered in 2023, with production stabilizing at 609.6 thousand tons and market volume rebounding to 591.0 thousand tons. This recovery coincided with Honduras reporting a 47% surge in overall fresh fruit and vegetable exports to the United States, highlighting broader sectoral strength. By 2024, citrus fruit imports rose to 3.7 thousand tons, a trend linked in reports to lower national agricultural yields affected by climate change, which increased reliance on foreign supply.

From 2017 to 2020, El Salvador and Guatemala remained the primary destinations for Honduras's citrus fruit exports in volume terms, jointly accounting for 81.5% of total flows. Other partners each held significantly smaller shares.
