Cinnamon production in SADC increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the region produced 3 286 tonnes of cinnamon, representing a slight year-over-year increase of 1.1%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 3.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.2%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 3 172 tonnes, which saw the largest decline of 6.8%. The largest increase occurred in 2019 with a 2.4% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, the Netherlands, Germany, and France were the leading destinations for SADC's cinnamon exports in volume terms. The Netherlands accounted for 24.3% of exports, Germany for 19.3%, and France for 12.9%. Together, these three countries represented 56.5% of total export flows.
