Production of chicken meat in Serbia increased from 105.5 тыс. т in 2018 to 113.6 тыс. т in 2019, supported by state measures to assist domestic producers through procurement and stricter rules prohibiting the sale of frozen meat as fresh. These regulations, aligned with EU food safety standards, helped stabilize the market, with production reaching 114.0 тыс. т in 2020.

After a dip to 110.5 тыс. т in 2021, output recovered to 115.6 тыс. т in 2022 and surged to 126.5 тыс. т in 2023. This growth occurred alongside continued regulatory controls on meat safety and declaration, while global economic pressures from the conflict in Ukraine affected input costs.

In 2024, the government imposed price caps and trade margin limits on chicken to curb food inflation, while some farms faced closures due to low profitability. New labeling rules for '100% from Serbia' tightened requirements for imported meat, reflecting efforts to balance domestic production and import dependency.

Serbia's chicken meat and offal exports have declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, export volume amounted to 5 766 t, representing a robust decline of 12.9% from 2019. The maximum volume was recorded in 2018 at 7 455 t, with the largest increase of 30.0% also occurring in that year.

From 2017 to 2020, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Vietnam were consistently the main destinations for Serbia's chicken meat and offal exports in kind. Together, they accounted for 85.6% of total flows, with Montenegro representing 42.1%, Bosnia and Herzegovina 29.8%, and Vietnam 13.8%.

Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports increased by 10.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of 3.4%. The maximum value was recorded in 2018 at 12 118 K $ US, with the largest increase of 27.2% also in that year.
