A key driver of growth in 2022 was shifting consumer preference toward chicken as a primary protein source, alongside rising demand for fresh, prepared chicken products that gained substantial share in consumer baskets. The market's strong vertical integration, exemplified by cooperatives like PINDOS maintaining high quality standards, supported this expansion.

By 2024, imports from Greece reached notable levels, reflecting continued reliance on foreign supply, while a new market segment emerged with Cypriot startup Mighty Kitchen offering plant-based chicken alternatives across over 100 retail points, diversifying the product range.

Chicken meat and offal production in Cyprus experienced a decline after two consecutive years of growth. In 2020, production remained stable at 26 530 tonnes, unchanged from the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production increased by 5.7%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.9%. The peak was reached in 2019 at 26 650 tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase of 5.5%.

In 2020, Cyprus exported 762 tonnes of chicken meat and offal, marking a 20.8% increase compared to 2019. Over the four-year span from 2017 to 2020, exports decreased by 6.3%, translating to an average annual decline of 2.1%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 631 tonnes, while the highest was in 2018 at 1 027 tonnes. The most significant drop occurred in 2019 with a 38.6% decrease, whereas the largest rise was in 2018 with a 26.4% increase.

From 2017 to 2020, Vietnam, Italy, and Benin emerged as the primary markets for Cyprus's chicken meat and offal exports by volume. Vietnam accounted for 42.4% of exports, Italy for 11.9%, and Benin for 7.6%. Together, these three countries represented 61.9% of total export flows.

Throughout 2017 to 2020, the Netherlands, Poland, and Greece were the key partners for chicken meat and offal imports into Cyprus by volume. The Netherlands supplied 43.7% of imports, Poland 13.8%, and Greece 9.0%. Together, these three countries made up 66.5% of total import flows.
