Earlier Report Observations

The chicken meat and offal market in Kyrgyzstan began the period with a temporary ban on imports from parts of Kazakhstan in 2018 due to avian flu concerns, which may have affected supply. By 2019, the expansion of the processing base, evidenced by an increase in the number of meat processing enterprises, supported growth in domestic production. Market volume rose to 42.3 тыс. т in 2019 before a slight dip to 40.1 тыс. т in 2020.

Growth resumed strongly from 2021, with market volume reaching 50.4 тыс. т that year, bolstered by increased domestic slaughter output and the introduction of temporary state price controls on meat. In 2022, further production gains and the tightening of veterinary controls, including the implementation of an animal identification and traceability system, enhanced market safety and likely contributed to sustained demand, pushing market volume to 55.9 тыс. т.

By 2023, the market expanded to 62.3 тыс. т, supported by plans to launch additional poultry farm lines, such as in Balykchy, aimed at reducing import reliance. Tariff quotas within the EAEU regulated meat imports. In 2024, a VAT exemption on imported feed raw materials lowered production costs, while ongoing capacity expansions continued, though import dependency remained significant.
