Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2023, the Bolivian chestnut market volume remained relatively stable, fluctuating between 82,000 and 85,000 tonnes. The 2018 production peak coincided with a record year for exports, which solidified Bolivia's position in the international market. In 2020, the country maintained its 50% share of global chestnut exports, supporting domestic output despite broader economic challenges.

Beginning in 2022, the state-owned Empresa Boliviana de Alimentos (EBA) became actively involved in purchasing chestnuts across 18 municipalities in the Beni and Pando departments, influencing the supply chain. EBA's role, alongside shifting export demand, contributed to market stabilization, with volume reaching 84,400 tonnes in 2023.

In 2024, Bolivia consolidated its role as the world's leading chestnut exporter, driven by an active export promotion policy from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and access to new markets, including China and several European countries.
