From 2018 to 2023, cherry production in the Dominican Republic more than doubled, rising from 4 577 t to 9 199 t. This growth was primarily driven by the Ministry of Agriculture's policies to promote formal cherry cultivation, which expanded the planted area from 1 883 tasks in 2018 to 3 698 tasks in 2023, a near 100% increase over six years.

Despite rising domestic output, the market remained reliant on imports to meet local demand, maintaining a trade deficit. In 2023, local producers like the Coopalmilla cooperative began exporting cherry pulp to the United States through free zones, supported by the Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD), marking a diversification into new export channels. Production stabilized around 5 400 t in 2020 and 2021 before surging again in 2022. Global factors such as projected declines in world cherry production and the concentration of Chilean exports toward China were noted in 2024 as potential influences on the Dominican market.

After two years of growth, the Dominican Republic's cherry production volume declined. In 2020, the country produced 5 453 tons of cherries, marking a moderate reduction of 9.3% compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production increased by 33.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of 10.1%. The peak was recorded in 2019 at 6 010 tons, which also saw the largest annual increase of 31.3%.
