Peruvian cereal germ production and market size showed significant year-to-year fluctuations between 2018 and 2023, moving within a range of approximately 54,000 to 61,000 tons. After an initial drop in 2019, output recovered strongly in 2020, only to decline again in 2021 before reaching a recent peak in 2022. The market remained almost entirely supplied by domestic production, as imports and exports were negligible throughout the period.

In 2024, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported the development of 20 new varieties of Andean grains with high genetic quality, aimed at benefiting small and medium producers. This same year saw the approval of new food safety and nutrition regulations under Supreme Decree No. 003-2024-MIDAGRI, which established updated rules for the production and marketing of foodstuffs, including cereal derivatives.

In 2019, Peru produced 53,712 tonnes of cereal germ, which was the lowest level during the period. However, production rebounded significantly in 2020, reaching 60,397 tonnes - a 12.4% increase compared to the previous year.
