Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2023, castor seeds production in the MENA region remained stable, fluctuating between 1 735 t and 1 775 t annually. Market volume, however, grew significantly from 1 980 t in 2019 to 3 045 t in 2023. This expansion was driven by a sharp rise in imports, which increased more than fivefold over the period. The growth in demand aligns with substantial government investments in agriculture, such as Egypt's $2.73 billion commitment in 2022 to boost agricultural output, which positively affected the oilseeds sector including castor seeds.

The market volume continued its upward trend, reaching 3 045 t in 2023. This period saw increased activity from major industry players, exemplified by BASF's expansion of its high-yield soybean seed portfolio with advanced technologies in July 2023, reflecting broader biotechnology trends influencing oilseed markets. Furthermore, growing regional interest in modern agricultural technologies and precision farming supported the overall seed market development, contributing to the sustained demand for castor seeds.
