Castor seed cultivation in Iran's central and southern regions supported a market volume of approximately 28 120 kg in 2018. The following year saw a slight increase to 28 320 kg, despite drought conditions that reduced domestic harvests, as growing demand from the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries for natural oils prompted imports.

A sharp contraction to 26 330 kg occurred in 2020, primarily driven by economic sanctions and currency exchange volatility that constrained production. The market rebounded to 27 560 kg in 2021, fueled by a shift in consumer preferences toward natural and organic products, which boosted domestic cultivation.

By 2022, high inflation pushed food prices to a three-year peak, offsetting government support for oilseed producers and contributing to a slight market decline to 27 330 kg. The volume continued a gradual downward trend, reaching 27 070 kg in 2023.
